I'm trying to resist weaning but I think DC wants to start sooner than I do. DC is starting to fuss a whole lot when at the breast and we have introduced a formula for those extra fussy evenings. I want to do it as slowly as possible but I'm not sure how to deal with the fussiness.

Any thoughts?Huh

The fussiness could be from a growth spurt- rather than the formula, you might want to try to nurse a little earlier to avoid more extreme hunger. Maybe add a nursing session to up your supply? Also, I remember that my letdown slowed a little bit at around that age, and the impatience from that could be contributing to the fussiness.

I agree with Eileen that the fussiness could be a growth spurt.

Teething pain can also cause fussiness.  There were times when my babies would go nearly a whole day without nursing until their need to eat was greater than the pain in their gums.  It was frustrating and exhausting for both of us, but never lasted for more than a day at a time.

They don't have to suck as hard to get milk from a bottle as from your breast, so he could be more comfortable feeding from a bottle if his gums are sore.  Have you tried pumping any of your milk earlier in the day for him to have in the evening bottle?

If you don't want to wean, it doesn't sound like you necessarily need to.   It is rare for an infant to want to wean at 7 months.  There is a good chance that this is a brief stage that you can work through together!

Eating oatmeal is very helpful to lots of women. Try to make sure you're getting enough rest. Really, just nursing as much as you can is the best way to do it. Pumping definitely helps too.

I would also make sure you are drinking enough water.

I hope things are going better.

Could it be possible that your period is returning? That can also cause a temporary dip in supply.

I would think it would be very unusual for a baby to wean at 7 months. Something else is likely going on.
