Mine was probably from my mom.  I was second guessing everything with my first child, and she said to me, "You know, you don't have to do everything perfectly all the time to be a good mom."  That really stuck with me.  There were times I was sick or tired or just fed up with some behavior, and I'd do or say something I regretted.  But I knew that it still didn't make me a bad mom; it just meant I was human and flawed.

To take time to enjoy the kids because they grow so quickly.

Really know your kids and do what works in your house, don't worry about what all the books say.

The grass will grow back.

There was a story my mom told me when I was pregnant with Jasmine about a man who took alot of pride in his yard. When his son was a toddler, he pushed his little dump trucks and dug holes in the yard, killing the grass. His wife assured him with, "It will grow back, Dear." They had another child, close in age and when his sons were young boys playing tag, or cops and robbers with their friends father struggled to get the grass to stay green. His wife assured him, it would in fact grow back.

When they were teens, they would dump thier bikes in the yard right next to the fence leaving a dirt path. "Don't worry dear, it will grow back.

Many years later when the boys were leaving for college the man stood overlooking his pristine lawn and said....

"They will come back...won't they?"

My mom said the most important thing to remember as a parent is to live each day for now; tomorrow they will be much older, and you can't get yesterday back. If you spend all their life waiting for your grass to grow back, you could miss the whole thing.

"don't be as lax about injuries as I (my mom) was!"

Make sure you set aside time to read to/with your kids every night!

An allowance is good, but don't tie it to chores. There are chores they have to do just because they are a part of your family; an allowance is "just because I love you."

Splurge on them sometimes.

Celebrate an Un-Birthday now and then, it's just plain fun!
